It’s Time to Get People Excited About Film, TV & Series, and Video Game Trailers Again.
In 2021, I signed with one of my favorite trailer music companies, Methodic Doubt Music. Methodic Doubt has created custom music for trailers for Films, TV, Video Games, and Advertising, for productions like Breaking Bad, True Detective, Dunkirk, Get Out, Us, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Logan, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Iron Man 3, The Conjuring, The Dark Knight, Destiny 2, Call of Duty, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more. As you could imagine, the legacy of the placements Methodic has had created a really high bar for me to reach. And I’ve spent the last year of my life doing everything I can to contribute to the evolution of exciting people for upcoming productions.
So far, I’ve covered a majority of the spectrum of placements, ranging from Drama, Thriller, Suspense, Horror, Action, and Sci-Fi. My reel consists of great examples of the breadth of diversity found in the music I’ve written or produced for trailers. I absolutely love challenges, and experience peak joy when I’m given the opportunity to transform perception. Covers, remixes, and bespoke music set to the story is where I excel most.
My greatest connection to trailer music is the understanding of structure. Unlike film or series music that is created after picture is locked, trailers generally tend to allow the music to be a part of the structure. As a music composer brought into the film and tv world from the band producing and touring world, I pride myself on understanding how to captivate quickly, and memorably. Our job as composers for trailers is to get people excited - preserve that excitement, and build it up into sitting in a seat at the theatre, turning on a streaming service and binge-watching, or lining up at a local video game store to get a physical copy of the next AAA game.
But one of the biggest struggles we all face in today’s day and age is relevancy. And based on a poll that I’ve conducted, folks are losing their attention and excitement of trailers. And that’s no one’s fault - but we have to adapt and evolve. Very fortunately, this is where someone like myself comes in. I’m confident in the power of what we all do - from the filmmakers, to the editors, to the music composers. I know we can all make a change to get people excited again. I will stop at nothing to do my best job, both for you the client, and to the audience members.
