What do YOU look for when hiring a composer (or anyone) for your film or series You’re Working On?

A common denominator that seems to be ever-present when discussing the topic of “who to hire” is: the person has to be the perfect fit for the production across the board. But what makes them perfect for the film or series you’ve created? Key bulletpoints seem to be:

  • passion for the story or subject

  • passion for filmmaking as a whole

  • uncommon creativity that will tastefully connect what we see with what we hear

  • great storytelling abilities within music

  • and of course the professionalism and skill to take things to the scoring stage

The best way for folks on my end of the production spectrum to fit the bill is: make sure to be all of the above, but also always evolving, growing, and leveling-up skill sets. If I can pride myself on anything, it’s not just meeting key bulletpoints, it’s also being unrelenting in the pursuit of being my best, by learning all that I can to understand the bigger picture of filmmaking.

I’ve also made sure to be as diverse as I can possibly be, always absorbing endless amounts of music, watching films nearly ever day, reading about the behind-the-scenes, watching insightful videos about the processes of our lifetime’s best composers, and connecting with folks of our industry to learn about new perspectives and approaches.

I’m always excited to hear about a production from someone passionate about it. Feel free to reach out to me anytime!
