Marvel Music Compositions & Sound Design

Fantastic Four Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

This particular composition is a team of genres that weave in between one another, very similar to how the Fantastic Four work together as a team. Low Brass, Strings, Synths, drum machines, war drums, a whole team of eclecticism joins together to depict the sound of the Fantastic Four in one of my favorite episodes yet!

X-Force Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

This particular theme for X-Force draws from the movie Deadpool 2. Junkie XL used some funky analog synths on that score, and I wanted to draw that vibe in to accompany this incredible weird and unorthodox crue of misfits who came together to do some serious (good) damage!

Thanos SNAP! Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

I wrote this composition in September of 2018, doing my best to capture the villainous tone of Thanos. The cool thing is, if you watch Avengers: Endgame, you’ll notice Thanos and the music may sound familiar as he descends from his ship in the scene before his battle with Captain America and Thor.

Spider-Man Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

Originally I was going to revamp the original theme, but ended up drawing a much more mature sound to accompany the coming-of-age element of the amazing Spider-Man stories that shaped my love for comics for years to come!

Doctor Strange Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

This is one of my favorite compositions I did for Marvel. This was an opportunity to interpret the sounds of magic and wizardry, and I did so by utilizing classical elements from classic movies about magic and mysticism - conjuring the sounds of flutes, low brass, grand piano, and whirling reverbs.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

S.H.I.E.L.D. is as close to government/military as Marvel gets, and I felt compelled to dictating a sense of military band to this theme. I really wanted to have build a sense of grandiosity to the militant style Nick Fury embodies, and this wash achieved using orchestral elements.

“COOKING W/ GALACTUS”

GALACTUS VOICE ACTING

This video was my introduction to doing work for Marvel Entertainment, on that fateful Earth Day in 2018. Galactus is my Michael Jordan, so this was like a dream come true for inner comic book nerd Jesse. I’m not going to say that it was easy to channel the might of Galactus, but it certainly came naturally. Ladies and germs, my spirit animal, Galactus.

Carnage Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

One of my favorite things to do when given the freedom to create using whatever comes to mind is incorporating unorthodox elements into the composition. With Carnage, the first thing I thought of was, “I bet Nine Inch Nails would give this such a great creepy element.” I channeled my inner Trent Reznor and went for it with this one.

Venom Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

This song was written for Venom for a special effects makeup time-lapse Marvel did around Halloween. Venom is one of my favorite anti-hero characters, and I felt this urge to channel my inner 1980s anti-hero when I started writing. If you could imagine Rutger Hauer chasing people in a symbiote in the 1980s, we’re on the same page.

Defenders Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

Everyone may know the Defenders as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron First, but think again! Hulk, Namor, and Doctor Strange took the reigns of defending our world this time. I decided to lead with a serpentine and somber composition for this one, as the first story actually has a bit of a dower edge to it.

Daredevil Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

Daredevil’s theme is a bit of a good story for me. Originally, I submitted a theme that was labeled “too dark” for the motif. So, I went back to the drawing board and came up with this “not too dark” composition that has a bit more drive and less somberness to it. One day I’ll link up the original “too dark” for Marvel version!

Luke Cage

BY JESSE ZURETTI

I really enjoyed hip-hop and rnb in the 1990s - and while that may not be accurate to the time, I really wanted to showcase the sensibilities of where Luke Cage draws his conscience-driven sense of retribution. Using really old lounge piano chords mixed with some 1970s style Kung-Fu stringed instruments, I was able to blend old with…semi-new.

Avengers Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

Grandiose composition for such a powerful crew! I decided to go with dialed back and to the point, because there is no way you can overpower this team! The original Avengers is a favorite comic book of mine. Not too many people know about the original story of the Avengers - so check it out!

Runaways Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

This song has a funny history to it. Originally, this was intended to be a song for my band, Binary Code, but it was too upbeat for the way our record “MEMENTO MORI” came out. So, I reworked it and made it a retrosynth/synthwave song, and it just happened to connect perfectly with the youthfulness of the teenage-driven Runaways.

Black Widow

BY JESSE ZURETTI

I’m a huge fan of James Bond, Mission Impossible, and most importantly, Femme Fatale. When I knew I had to make Black Widow come to musical life, I instantly thought of James Bond: Goldeneye. More importantly, the video game. I wanted to have that 1990s “techno” edge to it, but also maintaining a bit of mystery and uncertainty - totally Black Widow.

Pixel Battle Theme

BY JESSE ZURETTI

Pixel Battle was SO MUCH FUN for me to do. This was like being given the opportunity to create the first Street Fighter character selection screen music. So, that’s what I did - I chased that nostalgic, sonically-pixelated synth tone and made what might be the most fun 10 seconds of music I’ve ever written in my life.
